Determined to ensure that the people at the grassroots understood the provisions of the constitution, the Lagos State government is set to translate the 1999 constitution into Yoruba language.

This was disclosed yesterday by the state commissioner for Information and strategy, Mr. Oladele Alake as part of the activities marking the first year of Bola Tinubu administration.

According to him, the decision to translate the constitution has become imperative against the background of what he called "the Federal government misrepresentation and misinterpretation of the constitution to the disadvantage of the general masses."

His words: "We know that it is a difficult task, but we are determined to ensure that the people in the grassroots get to know what the constitution says, after all majority of the people are in the grassroots and they do not understand English."
