WORLD CONFERENCE OF ORISA TRADITION AND CULTURE
ILE IFE, NIGERIA , AUGUST 5-12. 2001
| World Conference of Orisa Tradition and Culture that took place in Ile Ife ended on a good note. The followers of Irunmole came from all the Continents of the world. | ||
| All the programmes as written took place in all the different venues. Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade hosted the participants to a good reception at his palace. He also prayed for all the followers of Irunmole worldwide. He said "my palace belongs to all of you"; he used that to buttress the fact that the whole world started from Ile Ife - the home of mankind, where the first person (Oduduwa) to be created lived. Ooni is the representative of Oduduwa. | ||
| The issue of place of women and the positions of different Irunmoles were also settled. It was made known that women in Yoruba traditional religion are in front of men, they are highly respected, honored and worshipped. On the issue of positions of Irunmole, it was agreed that the Irunmoles are equal, it is not for us to be putting them in position. And they are working together for the benefit of mankind. | ||
| The next Orisa world Congress was billed to take place in Cuba in the year 2003. | ||
| Ethics Committee was set-up to monitor the effects of attitudes of individuals and institutions on the Yoruba traditional religion. Prince (Babalawo) Adigun Olosun MA,PGDJ was elected as a member. New officers to steer the international organisation for another two years were elected, Prof. Wande Abimbola was returned as the president. | ||
| We are looking forward to the next Orisa Conference in Cuba in the year 2003. A ba wa laye, a ba wa laaye wa. | ||
